Incantation:

Totemic Heronlands

An unseen landscape
This totemic panorama
These Heronlands
Our Earthland

We live our human lives oblivious to the connective intelligence of nature
Our visceral bodies ignorant to her countless elemental signals
Connective phenomena resonate our whole world
without us knowing

We assume other nature is without mind
Without consciousness
With our inherited individual minds
Our connective function has been discontinued

Our wild nature is deeply compromised
She has been eviscerated by us humans

She finds life on the margins,
 In remnants
Yet she holds on with a tenacious grip

She continues to communicate
Sending a vital life pulse
Her web of intercommunication

These remnants of wild luminous nature provide opportunities
Intimate opportunities across species

The heron calls out
Speaking her ancient tongue
Beckoning us into the web of nature

If we indeed listen intuitively to the heron
To her potent archaic calls
With a mind of deep respect
Calling out our deep empathic selves
And our earth consciousness
We are awakened
We are awakened to ourselves as animal
We become aware of the heron’s offer of communication
We are able to make a visceral identification
Behaving as reciprocal animal

We become aware of our place
Within the immense connective web of nature

Hitherto, all of this is hidden
Hidden by the function of our singular psyche
Our dualistic split from nature
Our ‘us and them’ approach

In fact, nature’s vast intercommunication is everywhere

Hearing the call of the heron
And responding with reciprocal sentience
These are the beginnings of material psychic transformation
The foundation of humility and reverence within nature

This demands a re-evaluation of our place in nature
Our transactional relationship with our Earthland

This allows us to recognise the call of the heron as a beckoning to an initiatory relationship
That she is willing to be our teacher

With reverence we recognise initiatory process as developmental opportunity
Across all of nature
Opportunities to educate our ecological selves

Initiation as a process of encountering developmental thresholds
Thresholds of multi-layered connective experience
Thresholds to intimate identification across species

Recognising the sacredness of all beings in nature
Flora, fauna and elemental presence
The sacredness of ourselves as nature

In this Heronlands on the margins
The heron’s archaic language is a pathway to ecological consciousness

We can walk by or listen
But when we truly listen with visceral reverence
We are amazed

Because the heron’s call is a conduit to profound change
An opportunity to pass the threshold into a connective dialogue within the psyche of nature

A dialogue that has been mostly extinguished
Between modern humans and nature

We are programmed completely differently
To all other beings of nature
Yet we retain a connective strand
Embedded as a deep psychic strata within our unconscious selves
Neglected for so long

With acts of reverential listening and dialogue
We are taken out of our singular interior mind
We find ourselves operating in a parallel consciousness
Within the connective outerior mind of nature
In the rich psychic strata of ecological consciousness

With the connective balance of reciprocity
We are able to communicate across nature’s totemic panorama

The Call of the Heron is a voice in the wilderness
Until we make a connective identification
Only then it is a profound aperture
An opening of the eyes of ecological consciousness

We then discover that we can have a connective identification
Across all parallel nature
We have the means for the restoration of our Earthmind
We can communicate with the beautiful ancient language of the heron
We can become part of these Heronlands.
